Paula Schnebelt, LM, CPM Sonoma waterbirth

Paula is a California Licensed Midwife and a North American Registry of Midwives Certified Professional Midwife who has been licensed since 2004. Paula has been continuously certified in NeoNatal Resuscitation and Healthcare Providers' CPR since 2000, and she is a member of the Midwives Alliance of North America (MANA) and the California Association of Midwives (CAM). 

Paula has five beautiful daughters and is married to a local carpenter. Three of her children were born at home and the last was a waterbirth. Having experienced both hospital and homebirth, she believes she is uniquely qualified to serve laboring women in the pursuit of their desired way to birth. mar

Paula desires to serve women who wish to exercise their right to choose and trust their bodies to birth without intervention. Paula's goal is to aid women in discovering the beauty and fulfillment of birthing naturally, in the familiar comfort of their homes. She hopes to inspire women and their families through education, support and encouragement. Birth is a time of divine beauty and Paula loves assisting women with making informed choices for their pregnancy, labor and birth; and helping them to explore their options.

Finding Midwifery Sonoma waterbirth

Paula says midwifery first called to her when she became pregnant with her second daughter and discovered the difficulty of finding a midwife who would support and attend her in having a homebirth. The midwife she finally found after much searching suggested Paula apprentice so she could assist other women in her community who might also desire to explore homebirth as an option. Paula says she was once asked what she liked best about her work. After reflecting for a few moments, she replied that it is that moment when baby and mom and dad meet for the first time. The baby is born and placed upon the mother’s chest and she and Dad look into their baby’s eyes for the first time, and the baby is gazing back – seeing his mother and father for the first time. It is such a magical moment, and such an honor to witness. waterbirth
